AAFW backstage report: Wella Professionals and OPI X Iordanes Spyridon Gogos

Wella Professionals and OPI X Iordanes Spyridon Gogos backstage report - Thursday May 12, 2022

Experimental brand, Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, debuted its ‘23 collection on Thursday May 12, at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum as part of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2022.

Hair was designed by Australian hair stylist, Reyna Xydis, for Wella Professionals and nails were designed by makeup artist, Mikele Simone for OPI.

The hair:

“For this show, we have used hair pieces and wigs in different ways to create hair art, hand making these creations,” said Xydis. “The theme we worked with was Helen of Troy, but I really ran with this and used my full creative freedom – considering myself as an artist for this project.

I’ve been able to tune in to the creative side of my brain, which has led me into the innovative and imaginative side of editorial. I’ve tunneled into Jordan’s vision without going too far out of the brief by adapting a lot of colour and unique pieces to the hair.”

The nails:

“The nails are inspired by ISG and his creative work,” said Simone. “I didn’t want to take away from his designs as they are such art works, so I decided to incorporate his trims and fabrics to some of the nails and also recreate some of the patterns and prints. It is a fusion of colour, texture and patterns and a huge nod to nail art, but not as know it.”

Get the look - Hair:

“The whole suite of Wella Professionals products have been used, from the new Color Fresh Masks to EIMI Mistify Me Strong Hair Spray to EIMI Glam Mist, to men’s products,” said Xydis. “This is not your typical show – it’s an intilliation of hair art in a sustainable way by the reuse of hair to create amazing and eccentric wearable art.”

Get the look - Nails:

“The nails took approximately seven full days to complete as each set was bespoke, working closely with Jordan’s designs to help tell a story,” said Simone.

“I used a mixture of OPI Infinite Shine adn Gel polishes in pretty much every colour I could get my hands on. The nails are an explosion of colour and texture. I also used some trims and fabrics Jordan used in his collection to glory his art and vision. OPI has such an extensive range of shades that the selections were limitless. Each nail is all hand painted and some designs took hours as there is so much detail.”
