AFW 2026 backstage report: COMMAS

COMMAS x Shark Beauty backstage report – May 12th, 2026

Following sunrise over Sydney’s Tamarama Beach, modern menswear label COMMAS kicked off day two of Australian Fashion Week 2026 presented by Shark Beauty with a Resort collection, staged where the brand first showed five years ago.

Created in partnership with Shark Beauty as the official Hair Tool Partner and Skin Partner, the runway captured the feeling of post-surf calm — sun-washed skin, natural texture and effortless polish.

The look:

"Our Resort 2027 collection at Tamarama Beach reflects the essence of the COMMAS world – considered, refined, and deeply connected to the Australian coastline," said COMMAS Creative Director and Founder, Richard Jarman.

"Returning to the beach where we first presented five years ago felt both instinctive and meaningful, particularly following sunrise, when the light, sand, and ocean create a sense of calm and clarity that mirrors the collection itself."

"Shark Beauty, as our Hair and Skin Partner, played an integral role in bringing this vision to life. The hair and skin direction is effortless, natural, and quietly polished, complementing the collection’s relaxed tailoring, soft textures, and understated elegance."

"At its core, the show is a celebration of coastal living, craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of pieces designed with intention, simplicity, and longevity."

The hair:

"For the COMMAS show, the looks were inspired by that effortless moment after stepping out of the ocean," shared Shark Beauty Hair Director, Madison Voloshin.

"Hair that feels sun-dried, natural, and quietly elevated. Everything is built around enhancing texture rather than controlling it, so the finish stays soft, breathable, and touchable, never over-styled."

"The Shark Glam tool with the diffuser attachment is key in bringing that vision to life, allowing us to refine natural movement with controlled airflow so the hair dries with a lived-in polish that still feels completely real."

The skin:

"For COMMAS, skin is about enhancing what’s naturally there – working with each model’s authentic flush and texture to create a fresh, sun-warmed, glow after a day by the ocean," explained Shark Beauty Skin Director, Isabella Schimid.

"After a thorough cleanse, hydration is layered tailored to the individual, with the Shark CryoGlow used to calm, depuff and help maximise absorption. There’s a particular focus on the under-eye area post-CryoMask, when the skin looks especially revived and luminous."

"Everything is massaged in to bring life to the skin, with minimal concealer, a soft flush, and controlled shine."

"The beauty look is finished with sunscreen and only strategic powdering so the result is dewy, polished, and naturally luminous, never overly glossy."
