The beauty looks for David Jones' A/W show

When it comes to fashion events in Australia, the David Jones collection shows are up there with the best of them. Last night, ambassadors Jessica Gomes, Jason Dundas and Montana Cox hit the catwalk to launch the department store’s Autumn/Winter 2015 collections.

On Seven at David Jones was transformed in a striking urban jungle complete with a graffiti artist, paved runway, and drummers. and  were on hand to ensure the models looked the ‘city slicker’ part.

M.A.C director of makeup artistry James Molloy created two make-up looks, referencing girls who party all night but still look fresh and beautiful. “It’s a Manhattan socialite girl, really cool and really lived in. She’s that typical girl who spends a little bit of time on her make-up but then wears it all night - doesn’t touch it up and still looks great at 5am,” explains Molloy.

Focusing on real skin, the first look featured a sophisticated tobacco brown eye with a fleshy nude lipstick. The second look paired a dimensional smoky eye with a transparent foundation to lend a subtle sheen to the skin.

As for hair, Aveda creative director for David Jones Terry Robertson-Kirkwood came up with two different hair looks to reflect the store’s “City Scape” theme. “We wanted to play with this concept and take it in a new direction,” says Robertson-Kirkwood.

“We have created two looks that take this bold independent city girl and present her in a new light, where she has confidently settled into her look as the night draws to a close. The texture is soft and light and is a nod to the beautiful textures showcased on the runway this season.”

To get the first look, hair was blow-dried smooth before large tongs were used to add soft texture via slow-sliding, vertical movements to the mid-lengths. To avoid ending up with defined curls, stylists wrapped hair loosely and did not close the tongs. For the second look, the same steps applied, then hair was tied back into a low ponytail and pulled loosely to cover the ears.
