Get to know: Uspa, the brand promoting the brilliance of botanicals

The Australian beauty industry is made up of thousands of different brands and it's often tricky getting to know the history and philosophy behind the products we're recommending to readers, friends and family.

Today, we're going to get into the nitty gritty of Uspa, the Melbourne-based spa brand that sits under the BWX Ltd. umbrella with the likes of Sukin and Renew Skincare.

From at-home rituals, to partnering with QT Hotels & Resorts, here's a quick guide to everything you need to know about Uspa.

History
Founded in 1995 by partners George and Vanessa Jilly, the Uspa brand was developed in Melbourne with a natural grounding thanks to George's knowledge of botany. The effects of plant chemistry, especially essentials oils, in skincare, general health and wellbeing form the underlying basis of the brand. Vanessa's previous experience as a nurse also gave Uspa an authoritative head start in terms of a holistic approach, caring for the individual.

Product ethos
The Uspa range is created under the philosophy that effectively engaging with nature leads to total beauty and a sense of wellbeing. All of Uspa's natural skin and hair care products utilise the healing powers of plants and herbs.

Uspa products are formulated with naturally active botanical ingredients sourced from the best Australia has to offer and from around the world. The products are free of sulphates, parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colour and fragrance.

Partnering with QT Hotels
Uspa is available across many hotels and spas across the country but is perhaps most well known for being product partner across five QT Hotels & Resorts spas.

Available in spaQ and the Barber Shops, Uspa's sensory journey aligns with QT's philosophy when it comes to delivering therapeutic body and beauty treatments with its products that are, "...supremely effective, kind on the environment, and travel well," according to spaQ head of development and operations Naomi Gregory.

The Uspa Rituals
Uspa offers various rituals during spa treatments that are inspired by Australia and many cultures abroad.

Guided breath and subtle energies calm, energise, soothe and balance, and lead to a sense of total wellbeing. According to the brand, these rituals are one reason why people return time and again for the Uspa treatments.

At-home rituals
Uspa encourages its clients to continue their personal journey with at-home rituals that aim to replenish and balance the soul.

While Uspa’s products provide a sensory experience on their own through the unique textures and aromas, fans of the brand will know that key Uspa Rituals can be experienced in daily facial/body routine. Here's what the brand recommends:

  • 3 Deep Breaths – To start and end your ritual, take 3 Deep Breaths to calm and ground the body and soul. This helps focus your attention on the present moment and get in tune with your sensations to transition from your busy work life into relaxation.
  • Aromatherapy Breath – Add product to the palm or fingertips of your hands and before applying product to the face or body, bring hands up to the nose and take a deep breath to inhale the aromatherapy benefits of the essential oils used in Uspa’s products.
  • Energy Cleanse – To end your daily routine, apply medium pressure to areas of your chin, nose and forehead and then draw lines outwards to the left and right. For the body, apply medium pressure from your limbs out away from the body. This movement helps release emotional tensions from your day.
