A catch-up with Kate Manihera

What prompted you to start a YouTube channel?

I decided to start a YouTube channel because I've always been interested in make-up and also really enjoyed watching other beauty gurus online. I've always been one to step outside my comfort zone and try something new and so I truly felt like I had nothing to lose by just giving it a go. After I made my first video, I fell in love with the whole process of filming and editing and so here I am two years on, still just as passionate as when I started.

How do you manage running your own business (especially so young) while juggling everything else?

Honestly, at times it does get really difficult trying to run a business and a YouTube channel whilst attending uni full time. I've always been one to set high expectations for myself and so I refuse to allow my focus on one activity to have negative impacts on another. Hence, the main thing for me is as simple as organisation. I have a planner and a calendar where the next three months of business, uni and YouTube are already accounted for. I enjoy being busy but hate being stressed, so I've found that when I plan extensively, I usually have my happy medium of a six day working week with one night free for social activities.

What is your favourite aspect of being a beauty influencer?

My favourite part about being a beauty influencer is definitely all the cool people I get to meet. It's the craziest feeling ever when someone comes up to me and tells me they're a fan of my channel!! I also love going to beauty events and seeing other bloggers/vloggers/make-up artists like myself, and meeting the people behind some of my favourite brands.

What autumn/winter make-up trends will you be trying out?

I think graphic liner is definitely a trend this season. I recently tried that out in a video on my channel but honestly my go to for every A/W season is vampy, deep purple lips and copper lids so that's definitely coming back into my life for 2017!

What’s your favourite kind of make-up look to wear day to day?

My favourite make-up to wear daily is definitely bronzed and luminous skin, brows, mascara and lip gloss. Definitely nothing too heavy on the eyes or lips for me on a daily basis.

With the ‘athleisure’ trend huge right now – what are your thoughts on wearing make-up while you exercise? Any tips?

I think it’s a personal choice whether or not to wear makeup when working out. For me, I choose not to as I sweat so bad my eyebrows would be halfway down my cheeks within ten minutes! But if you do want to wear it then I would definitely recommend waterproof mascara and a heavy duty brow product like Dip Brow.

If you were on an island and could only take three skincare/beauty products, what would they be?

, Clarisonic Mia 2 and Chapstick. My three daily essentials!

Who is your beauty inspiration/muse?

My favourite make-up artist is Ania Milczarczyk, I think she is the person that got me hooked on radiant, natural skin!
