Expert predicts: Nail trends for 2022

Welcome back to BD’s second edition of ‘Expert Predicts’: where we shine a spotlight on 2022 beauty trends with the help of a seasoned expert.

This week, we chat to The Parlour Room’s founder and leading beauty expert, Natalie Ferrari, who tells us everything we need to know about the happenings of the nail care industry in 2022.

After all, with salons seeing a record number of clients following the easing of COVID restrictions, it’s no surprise that trends are coming, going and evolving at a rapid pace.

What will be trending this year?

“At the moment we’re seeing a huge shift toward 'nail care’ in general, with a lot more clients moving away from treatments such as SNS and instead, opting for more Bio Sculpture or Dazzle Dry manicures and pedicures,” Ferrari told BD.

According to her, this is because these treatments are typically considered ‘healthier’ for your nails, as they contain vitamins and minerals which promote strength and length as you wear.

“Dazzle Dry is also extremely quick drying so it’s proving quite popular,” she added. “When it comes to particular nail trends, I think we can look forward to a lot of experimentation this year. The trend cycle is shorter than ever and especially post lockdown and the influence it's really about doing what makes you happy.”

When it comes to nail polish colours, you can also expect to see plenty of pastel blues, purples and mint greens, with Ferrari revealing that chic nudes will always be on trend as well.

Will we see more of nail care in 2022?

Definitely, Ferrari said. We saw the rise of self care in 2020 and she belives this will continue for a little while longer, and extend across all facets of our, life including the health of our nails.

“From the use of cuticle oil to help keep your nails healthy and hydrated, to at-home nail kits and tools like the Finishing Touch Flawless Salon Nails and Pedi, which helps you maintain your manicure between appointments.”

What kind of manicure innovations can we look forward to and what’s on the way out?

In line with increased interest around nail care, there are a lot of really great tools out there to help maintain the health of your nails between appointments and help keep your manicure last longer.

"Our TPR Cuticle Oil is a great addition to your self-care regime, so too are the Finishing Touch Flawless innovations including the Pedi and Salon Nails kit which are great for when you’re on the go, or can’t get an appointment," Ferrari said.

As for what’s set to depart the land of manicures, she sees micro-french tip sticking around, but the multi-coloured tip is on the way out.

Has the pandemic impacted nail trends?

“Of course!” Ferrari said. “Being that we were all stuck at home, and when things did open up and there was such a long waitlist for appointments, it meant that if we wanted beautiful nails we had to do it ourselves.

We saw a surge in popularity for things like at-home nail kits and the sales of regular polish and tools such as the Finishing Touch Flawless range which I don’t think will show any signs of slowing down. Especially when we’re seeing trends come and go at such a fast pace now with the help of TikTok.”

And while nothing compares to a salon-quality finish, using regular polish gives you the freedom to change up your style every few days depending on how you feel, she added.
