MECCA closes up shop

It's been a hard week for retail, with business after business announcing its doors are closing. The next big player to make such announcement is Australian beauty giant, MECCA.

In a statement emailed to customers, the company said due to the strict social distancing measures it had no choice but to close all stores from March 31, 2020.

"These are difficult and disorienting times we find ourselves in. We’ve tried to keep our doors open, operating with rigorous health and safety measures to protect our customers and our team," the statement reads.

"However, based on the revised advice of the Government over the last few days and the challenges in adhering to the increasingly stringent social distancing measures, we have no choice but to temporarily close our stores from today, as nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our team, our customers and the community in general."

Adapting to the current situation, MECCA announced last week its latest venture, MECCA LIVE, a 24/7 beauty broadcasting program, as BD reported here.

As well as the hub, MECCA is also offering personalised beauty consultations accessed via FaceTime. You can choose a quick 15 minute beauty pow wow, or a 45 minute skin or makeup consultation.

"One of our ‘font of all knowledge’ in-store hosts will call you on FaceTime and will talk you through and demonstrate everything you would typically see in store. It’s free. It’s fun. We think it’s pretty fabulous and we’d love you to be a part of it."

MECCA said it anticipates being closed for four weeks until the end of April. BD will keep you up-to-date with any changes.

"We want to thank our amazing teams for all their incredible efforts to support our customers and each other during these challenging times."
