As we know, night time is all about rejuvenation. Throughout our beauty sleep, the skin is more responsive to all treatments due to enhanced blood microcirculation, higher skin temperature and faster regenerative processes. Consumers apply night creams, eye masks and facial serums before they hit the hay, but the latest in night time innovation comes from , with its launch of a nail serum that harnesses the power of keratin to improve damaged nail plates while we dream.
Keratin is the key structural protein making up the outer layer of the skin. The Revitanail Keratin Strengthening Serum utilises keratin to moisturise and enhance the nail, providing a solution for dry, brittle nails. Is this the same technology as the ever-popular keratin hair treatment you may ask? There are similarities between keratin proteins present in human skin, hair and nails but they are not identical. Depending on the type, keratin protein structures can be soft (like hair) or sturdy (like nails).
Nail plates are porous in comparison to the epidermis, which influences rapid hydration or dehydration. Frequent exposure to solvents in polishes (cured polishes in particular), removers or detergents are harmful to the nail plate, as a great loss of moisture will reduce nail elasticity and enhance brittleness.
According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information*, abstract skin moisturisation, elasticity, feel and appearance can be improved through the topical application of protein hydrolysates (in simple terms - through keratin). In this case, the Revitanail Keratin Strengthening Serum utilises a protein hydrolysate named ProSina, which is a mixture of water and hydrolysed keratin.
ProSina is rich in sulphur functional structures and the high proportion of these enables it to cross link with the keratin present in nail, creating kind of a denser 3D net which result in the higher integrity of the nail plate,” explains Revitanail product development manager Teresa Hryniewiecka. ProSina’s keratin peptides are of a defined and controlled molecular weight (size) that is small enough to allow skin and nail penetration and as result saturation them with needed moisture.”
Utilising this technology, the nail strengthening serum can be applied before bed to improve the condition of damaged nails. The serum protects nails from damage associated with solvent exposure, improves hydration and elasticity of dry skin, and repairs the hand skin barrier. It has been formulated with nourishing shea butter, sweet almond oil, and vitamin E to soothe and nourish nails, and can be applied to coated and uncoated nails. We especially recommend it for nails damaged by gel polish or artificial nails,” adds Hryniewiecka.
To take nails from brittle to beautiful, pump a small amount of the serum onto the cuticle area, gently massage into nails and cuticles for one minute. Apply over polished or bare nails two-three times a day or as often as required. Finish by applying Revitanail Nourishing Oil.
