If you don’t know the name Lucia Pica, commit it to your memory - fashion powerhouse Chanel has just announced her as its new global creative make-up and colour designer. Following Peter Philips departure and subsequent move to Dior nearly two years ago, people have been waiting with baited breath to see who would take the French fashion house’s cosmetic crown.
The 38-year-old Italian make-up artist’s new position entails developing products in conjunction with the Chanel make-up studio in Paris. Pica has worked with Chanel previously, acting as lead make-up artist for its recent fall and holiday campaigns. Until recently she has been a freelance editorial make-up artist, shooting with the likes of British Vogue, i-D Magazine and House of Holland.
Pica is known for her fearless use of bold, graphic colour, and is a regular presence backstage at fashion shows with Peter Pilotto and Roksanda. Her appointment sees a new direction for Chanel, sparked by Karl Lagerfeld's recent love for a younger runway look.
Pica starts her new role officially on January 1, 2015.
