Proving that good things come in threes, Biba salon group creative director Frank Apostolopoulos was this weekend crowned the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year for the third time.
With Apostolopoulos taking out the top award for Australia, it was D&M Hair Design’s Danny Pato flying the flag for New Zealand – with Pato named Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year.
Celebrating their 31st anniversary this year, the annual awards are the longest running and most respected awards in the Australian and New Zealand hairdressing industry. Award winners were decided by 12 international judges and 25 Australian and New Zealand judges, with this year seeing winners of both the Australian and New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year receive funding to stage a show at Salon International in London.
“Winning Hairdresser of the Year for the third time is a massive honour. Having your work recognised by such an incredible panel of judges from around the world is amazing enough, but now having the opportunity to show in London is unbelievable. I’m still in shock,” says Apostolopoulos.
The awards show wrapped up this year’s Hair Expo Australia – which saw a record 10,000+ visitors attend the expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 11 to 13.
