AFW 2026 backstage report: Mariam Seddiq

Mariam Seddiq x Shark Beauty backstage report – May 13th, 2026

Mariam Seddiq unveiled ECHOES at the MCA, a collection exploring strength, sensuality and individuality through sculptural tailoring, fluid textures and refined femininity.

To complement the collection, Shark Beauty Hair Director, Madison Voloshin and Skin Director, Isabella Schimid created a polished, early-2000s inspired beauty look that felt sleek, luminous and quietly rebellious.

The look:

"The designs that I create are art that you live in. ECHOES is a reflection of strength, sensuality, and individuality – designed for women who move through the world with intention and confidence," said Mariam Seddiq.

"This season is deeply rooted in texture, with each fabric and silhouette expressing emotion, movement, and the different stages of a woman’s life – balancing strength with vulnerability, sensuality, and refinement."

"For Australian Fashion Week, I wanted to create a runway moment that felt bold yet refined, balancing sharp tailoring with fluidity and emotion."

"Beauty became an extension of that vision, with a focus on clean, luminous skin and sleek, sculpted hair that feels elevated with the fearless energy of the Mariam Seddiq woman."

The hair:

"For Mariam’s runway, we leaned into noughties nostalgia, drawing inspiration from the polished glamour and sharp silhouettes that defined the era," explained Shark Beauty Hair Director, Madison Voloshin.

"We wanted the hair to feel powerful yet effortless – sleek, expensive-looking, and slightly rebellious."

"We started by using the Glossi Ceramic Styler attachment on the Shark Glam tool to roughly stretch and smooth the hair before going in with the Silki attachment to reduce drying time and create a sleek finish quickly and effortlessly."

"Using the Silki Ceramic Straightener attachment, we were able to straighten the hair while still keeping it glossy and luxurious. The Glossi helped clear the path, while the Silki did the hard work of refining and perfecting the look. We wanted to bring a slight edge to an otherwise sophisticated look."

"For a select number of girls, I added hair extensions cut into a bob shape along the jawline, creating a strong linear silhouette that accentuated the fierceness of the Mariam Seddiq woman."

The skin:

"For the Mariam Seddiq show, the beauty look is a contemporary take on matte, sculpted skin – strong without feeling heavy, with a subtle nod to early 2000s minimalism," shared Shark Beauty Skin Director, Isabella Schimid.

"I begin by prepping the skin with the Shark CryoGlow LED Face Mask, using its cooling effect to calm, refine, and visibly even out the complexion. It creates the perfect base for that softly structured, velvety finish skin that feels polished, modern, and quietly powerful."

The products:

Shark Glam Hot Tool Air Drying & Styling System ($699.99 at Shark Beauty).

Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling & LED Mask ($699.99 at Shark Beauty).
