Mobile leads the way for social usage

Social media platform Hootsuite and global social media agency We Are Social have released a report on digital trends around the world titled: Digital in 2017.

Examining data from 238 countries, the report finds 50 per cent of the world is now connected to the internet and examines the opportunities that increasing connectivity has for organisations worldwide.

Two of the key findings from the report are that global social media usage has increased by 21 per cent in the last 12 months and mobile social media usage has increased by 30 per cent year-over-year to surpass 2.5 billion users globally. Ninety-one per cent of social media users are also accessing social from mobile.

In Australia, social penetration saw 14 per cent growth. A total of 16 million Australians are now on social media, 57 per cent of whom access those platforms via mobile. Our mobile usage further cements the 68 per cent lead over the global average.

As a result of this, experts are recommending that organisations should plan to transform their communications strategy to increase customer engagement and real-time interaction via mobile.
