Sunday Riley shares exciting news two years in the making

After a two-year process Sunday Riley is excited to share it is now a Certified B Corporation.

To celebrate, the skincare brand is planting thousands of trees around the world in honour of people who are just as passionate about making the world a greener place.

Locally, it is planting 50 trees a month, with the donations helping to plant millions of trees across Australia to recover forests affected by the 2019-20 Black Summer Bushfires and restore native habitat vital for wildlife.

What does it mean to be a Certified B Corporation and why is it important?

The B Corp certification process is lengthy and arduous, considering everything from packaging, office layouts, and company culture.

"We were up for the challenge, as we take our responsibility to operate in an ethical manner, both locally and globally, very seriously," the brand said.

"We are proud to be recognized by B Corp for our conscious efforts to use business as a force for good, influencing positive change wherever we have a corporate presence as well as our commitment to minimizing our impact on the environment."

Here are some of the ways Sunday Riley is exemplifying what it means to be B Corp Certified:

Packaging waste reduction: The brand has redesigned its packaging to be greener. From switching the EVA foam trays in its product packaging to recycled pulp board, switching to eco-friendly inks (like soy), and using FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) materials for boxes, the brand plans to have fully recyclable packaging by the end of 2021.

Energy efficiency: Purchase of carbon credits to offset its freight and e-commerce shipments as well as its manufacturing processes.

Supplier accountability: Suppliers and contract manufacturers are evaluated on sustainability and human rights metrics and have to meet its Supplier Code of Conduct. The brand purchases the most sustainable ingredient options possible from environmentally responsible suppliers. Its ingredients are sourced predominantly from the US, Europe, and Japan, and the range of products are formulated, mixed, bottled, and boxed in the US.

Social impact initiatives: In 2020 Sunday Riley has made significant contributions to organisations that align with the brand's values including the NAACP, The Trevor Project, and more. It has supported healthcare workers and beauty professionals throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and is eager to restart local, in-person volunteer opportunities.

Cruelty-free beauty: As a PETA and Leaping Bunny certified brand, Sunday Riley's commitment to animal welfare is just as important as sustainability. The brand has never and will never partake in any form of animal testing. It also supports various organisations committed to the protection and care of animals including PETA, Leaping Bunny, Friends For Life, and local Houston animal shelters.
