Cricket champion Glenn McGrath and media personality Emma Freedman have been announced as this year’s official Sydney Running Festival ambassadors.
Covering four events including the Sunday Telegraph family fun run/walk (4km), the Sunday Telegraph body+soul bridge run (9km), the Blackmores half marathon (21.1km) and the Blackmores Sydney marathon (42.2km), there’s a pace and race for everyone.
I’m really looking forward to the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival, this will be my fifth one,” says McGrath. This year we’ve decided to take on a bigger challenge by moving up to one of the longer distances and will train for the body+soul 9km bridge run. Having a goal like this a great way for the family to stay motivated and get fit over winter when it’s more tempting to stay rugged up and warm indoors.”
The race takes place on September 18 and will see competitors run or walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and finish at the Sydney Opera House.
I’m thrilled to be involved with the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. As a runner myself, I’ve wanted the opportunity to take part in this event not just for the chance to run across the bridge, but because it has to be one of the most spectacular courses in the world,” says Freedman. I’m planning to take part in the Blackmores half marathon. It will be the first time I’ve run 21kms so I’ll be using the health tips and training advice on the official Blackmores training website to help me get to the finish line!”
