Spring may bring the warmer weather with it, but that doesn’t mean you’re safe from colds and flus. The Fourth Annual Cold and Flu Survey has found 13 per cent of Aussies suffer a cold or flu in August, while 9 per cent are still at risk in September.
The survey of 15,000 people from 15 different countries found 35 per cent of participants are unsure of the best treatment for cold and flu symptoms, with 28 per cent relying on treatments they were given when young. And when it comes to finding a remedy, it’s a case of ‘mum knows best’ (after a medical professional), with 18 per cent going to their mothers for treatment advice.
And while 33 per cent of respondents have taken time off work for a cold, it seems this statistic should be higher - with 72 per cent having caught the sniffles from a colleague. A further 79 per cent are frustrated by the fact their colleagues have come to work sick.
As for the main areas of concern for flu sufferers, the inability to sleep came in at number one (68 per cent), followed by passing the cold on to others (47 per cent), inability to perform/complete work (45 per cent), and a lack of energy (36 per cent).
