Bauer Media NZ changes beauty structure

With beautyheaven set to launch in late September, Bauer Media Group, New Zealand’s largest magazine publisher, has been working to streamline its beauty content creation processes to support the site. When live beautyheaven will combine high quality beauty and health journalism with reviews and rewards.

As a result Bauer has a new beauty team structure where existing beauty editors will specialise in one key beauty category for beautyheaven and across Bauer’s magazines. This means one person will write all the makeup content (or skincare, body, hair, and so on) across all Bauer brands rather than writing for just one brand as before.

The new structure will see beauty editors writing for digital first (beautyheaven) with clever and appropriate re-purposing across print titles. “This arrangement will build deeper knowledge, insight and audience engagement in these specialist areas. It will also simplify our beauty teams’ relationships with PR and advertisers, allowing for one point of contact and specialist category experts conveying their products to consumers,” explains Shelley Ferguson, Fashion and Home Editorial Director at Bauer.

Bauer is also delighted to welcome Sarah Simpson back to the beauty team after three years away, as skincare expert across all brands.

The category specialists include:

Makeup & Fragrance – Megan Bedford

Body & Health – Lucy Slight

Skincare – Sarah Simpson

Hair – Zoe Walker-Ahwa

Celebrity – Amy Houlihan

40+ - Tracy Davis

Editor of beautyheaven & BEAUTYDIRECTORY – Erin Berryman

In addition to the relevant print editor, beauty editors will also report into editor of the new website, Erin Berryman,

As a result of the new structure all beauty editors will sit together as a team. “This will drive collaboration and the content strategy which has a strong focus on understanding the best executions for digital, video, social and print. The team have had digital training for deeper knowledge that identifies and leverages what’s trending, category insights and consumer engagement,” adds Ferguson.

FAQs

What does this mean for event invitations?

This means that the category specialist will be attending your event, alongside Erin Berryman, Amy Houlihan and Tracy Davis from the weeklies. Lisa Anderson from BEAUTY DIRECTORY is operating as usual. So you will still have a Bauer contingent at your event, albeit a few people less than before.

What if my brand/product spans more than one category?

If so, send information through to the experts in both categories.

Does this affect my commercial team contact?

No, please continue to contact your current Bauer commercial representative.

What if I have a pitch, request or information relevant to only one brand?

Send it through to the category expert that matches what type of product it is, and they will be responsible for matching it with the requested Bauer brand.

What will happen with social media mentions?

Again, send communications through to the category expert that matches what type of product it is, and they will be responsible for matching it with the right Bauer brand.
