BD Fast Five: Simone Anderson

Welcome to BD's first Fast Five - a new and rolling fixture on the site where we will be profiling Kiwi beauty influencers and bloggers in five need-to-know questions. First up in the series is Simone Anderson, a name undoubtedly familiar to just about every beauty insider (and beyond!) in New Zealand.

Simone became an overnight Internet sensation after her extreme weight loss journey went viral. Definitely not a one-hit-wonder, she is a force to be reckoned with in the world of social media and for good reason. Lovely inside and out, inspirational, #GIRLBOSS defined and a trained make-up artist, there isn't much Simone can't do - she's even selling her own muesli bars now (check them out here).

1. What three beauty products could you not live without?

Just three? This will be a tricky one, if you watched my beauty routine you would understand why! If I had to pick just three I would definitely say my number one would be my Weleda Tinted Lip Balm in Rose it’s such a moisturising product that is great for daily use but also can transition into evening with a bold lip – this product never leaves my handbag! Mascara would be my second must have product (I switch up brands on this one depending on what is on special), being blonde it means my lashes are virtually non-existent without it. Finally, it would be a great foundation and my go-to right now is Flawless Liquid Foundation by Nude by Nature, it has a great medium to full coverage and is easily buildable without ever looking cakey.

2. What is one beauty secret you wish you’d known earlier?

That less is more! For years I piled on the makeup believing it was transforming me into a goddess. When in reality looking back over photos I looked tired and overdone, it aged me well beyond my years and has given me many great laughs looking back over old photographs. I now focus on a more natural look for most occasions while glamming it up for very special events, fingers crossed I will look back and smile now rather than giggle at myself at the memories I am creating.

3. Beauty-wise how do you like to treat yourself and where do you go?

I have a few key treatments I love getting done each month that I would struggle to live without now. Firstly I get my nails done at Blush Baby she is a star and always get it spot on, I love switching up my nails and trying bold new designs and she is amazing with this. I have had my brows feathered at Lash Noir which means I now have perfect brows 24/7 and just go occasionally for a wee tidy up around the edges. I also go to Loft Beauty once a month for a facial or needling treatment depending on how I am feeling that day. I’m also now addicted to dermaplaning which involves exfoliating the skin and ridding it of fine ‘peach fuzz’ hair.

4. What is your favourite fragrance and why?

I have only used one fragrance for about five years now and it’s Michael by Michael Kors, without fail every time I wear this at least five people ask me what I am wearing. It’s such a beautiful feminine scent with its flowery notes and spicy undertones. I am reluctant to share this little secret as I love that very few other woman wear it, or so I have found but here you go!

5. On a social media note, how do you deal with negative comments and what advice would you give to others?

I deal with negativity on a daily basis, the faceless feeling social media brings allows the worst to be drawn out of people. I like to think of it in this way that if you were a happy, fulfilled and content person you would not be online trying to tear other down. It reminds me that these people must be fighting massive issues of their own and actually need their own help and support. They are clearly quite unhappy in themselves to feel the need to bring others down. I will not feed into their negativity so I simply hide the comment so no one else is affected by it and continue on my day. I used to let these people have space in my brain and worry about their opinions and now I have realised life is just too damn short!
