Commercial Bay: What you need to know

Auckland’s eagerly-awaited $1 billion Downtown precinct Commercial Bay has announced its next wave of tenants, bringing together a carefully curated mix of established local favourites and first-to-market global brands. Set to open in September, the complex will be home to 120 brand new retailers, including some new-to-market entrants.

On top of its incredible fashion offering, Commercial Bay is set to include an aspirational mix of food, speciality retail and beauty. It is expected to attract 10 million visitors each year.

Dior Perfumes and Beauty

Following in the footsteps of Chanel, Dior is spending $1 million opening its first beauty-exclusive New Zealand store in Commercial Bay. Employing eight staff, the namesake luxury retailer's flagship store will be located on the ground floor and around 82 sq m in size. Currently, Dior’s beauty range is available through department stores and Life Pharmacy only.

The retail expansion comes as Dior moves away from its traditional distribution model. Dior has four standalone stores in Australia and is in the process of expanding its store footprint, opening four more this year. The store will be service-orientated with makeup and skincare consultation services.

Loxy’s

Renowned hair extensions specialist Loxy’s will also be joining the precinct. Loxy's spokesperson Kate Jarrett told The New Zealand Herald the harbour-side location would create a great environment for its second Auckland salon and would enable it to widen its clientele base.

Mecca

Mecca will also take a large space in the complex, located on the Queen Street side close to H&M, which opened last year. Like its flagship store mid-Queen St, the commercial bay store will combine its Cosmetica and Maxima offering.

L’Occitane

The Commercial Bay opening of the high-end Provence born skincare and fragrance brand will mark the eighth store in Auckland. The new L'Occitane boutique will no doubt offer an equally beautiful Provencal experience – if not even more exquisite than ever.

Sephora, among other big name global retailers Uniqlo and Aldi, has been touted to launch in New Zealand for some time. It already has a local New Zealand website up and running but has remained tight-lipped on its plans for the market and its first store. Given it already has an online shop, and delivers throughout the country, surely it’s only a matter of time before a physical site is announced?!
