Lush to open a packaging-free ‘naked’ store in the UK

Lush is set to open a new store in the UK that features only ‘naked’ products that are completely packaging-free.

The company is bringing the concept to the UK following the success of the first packaging-free stores in Berlin and Milan, that were launched in 2018.

The new store, located in Manchester, will open on January 18 and will house products such as solid soap bars and plastic-free skincare products.

With the roll-out of the new store, Lush intends to raise awareness about plastic pollution, and to show customers how they can make small but impactful eco-friendly choices when shopping for products.

As reported by The Independent, in an interview following the opening of the initial stores, Lush designers explained how they hope the ‘naked’ stores will inspire consumers.

"I think visitors to the 'Naked' shop will hopefully realise how easy it is just to either bring their own bags with them when they're shopping or to make a better choice about how they're taking products away,” one Lush designer said.

Another designer said the packaging-free stores help promote brand transparency, and celebrate the fact that Lush products are fresh and handmade.

The recently launched #LushLabs app will also be available at the store for customers to take advantage of.

A feature on the app called ‘Lush Lens’ allows products to be scanned straight from the shelves, so shoppers can look at ingredient lists on their phones instead of referring to any plastic labelling on the cosmetics.

On the app, consumers can also watch demonstration videos that show them how to use the products.
