What’s next...Augmented reality and skincare?

It’s no shock that virtual reality has well and truly penetrated the beauty industry, from technology that allows users to try cosmetics before buying to Sephora’s in store virtual beauty consultations. The tech trend even extends into the hair colour category, with Clairol and L’Oreal quick to jump on board. So, it’s only natural that the next step would be skincare.

Alice Chang, CEO of augmented reality firm Perfect Corp says there are lots of innovative developments in the pipeline for skincare. “A skin analytic tool will be incorporated into the YouCam app and launched globally within a few weeks. It will identify skin imperfections, targeting five issues: skin tone, spot control, wrinkle resilience, texture refinement and dark circles,” she explains. The aim of virtural reality skincare is to allow people to visualise how their skin is changing and improving with the use of particular skincare products and to provide advice.

Apps offering skin health checks and diagnostics are also increasing with analytic mole checking intelligence on the rise. However, whether we can put our fate in the hands of an app is still questionable.

One thing is for sure, augmented reality is the future where beauty is concerned and skincare is the latest category to jump on the bandwagon.
