Dermalogica ProPower Peel - everything you need to know about the new treatment

It’s the latest salon treatment offering from Dermalogica, and the ProPower Peel is shaking things up when it comes to facial peels.

The strongest peel Dermalogica has released to-date, the treatment launched early September, and has something to offer a wide range of skin concerns.

We chatted to International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica education manager Emma Hobson about the new treatment, and found out everything you need to know.

What is the ProPower Peel and why was it designed?

At Dermalogica we wanted to create a fully customisable and ultra-potent professional peel treatment that was safe, fast and super effective with minimal to no down time. The innovative design of this peel ensures the skin therapists has complete flexibility to create the perfect bespoke treatment which is designed to each of their customer’s skin needs each and every time.

How does this differ from other Dermalogica peels or treatments?

The ProPower Peel is our strongest and fastest peel yet, the collection features a full suite of peel products, including Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs). Our ProPower Peel is unique in that each of the peels in this collection are efficacious enough to be used alone, layered or mixed together to create a truly personalised peel experience.

Who was it designed for?

Unless contraindicated, just about everyone will benefit from a skin peel depending on the peel’s strength and its benefits. Peels are great to for fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin texture, breakouts and acne to mottled skin and hyperpigmentation, chemical peels are one of the most effective ways to address these various skin conditions.

How long does the treatment take?

The ProPower Peel treatment takes no more than 30 minutes so it’s so easy and convenient to receive a course of treatments.

What are the best results?

After just one peel you will feel and see results, skin looks instantly brighter and has a smooth texture and a great glow to it. That said, nothing beats the incredible results you can achieve after receiving a course of peels, the difference in your skin is amazing. It can brighten and even skin discolouration and pigmentation, help clear the skin of congestion and breakouts, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and improve the all over tone, hydration and appearance of the skin.

What are your tips for prepping skin?

A professional peel works most effectively on a well-hydrated skin with a good barrier, therefore if you can boost skin hydration levels prior it's of great benefit as it’s kick-starting the skin’s cell renewal process. This is why with the ProPower Peel we recommend prepping the skin the week prior (with a week gap between home care and the professional peel) with the Rapid Reveal Peel home care system.

Also avoid strenuous exercise on the day of treatment, along with prolonged exposure to heat sources like dry saunas or steam rooms; these activities increase blood circulation to the face, which can lead to discomfort, redness, swelling or other side effects.

Any post treatment care you recommend?

It’s essential to wear a sunscreen with an SPF 30 to 50, such as Dermalogica Super Sensitive Shield SPF30 or SkinPerfect Primer SPF30. And avoid direct sun exposure for two to three weeks to prevent hyperpigmentation.

On the night post the treatment, we recommend rinsing the face with cool water and cleanse with Dermalogica UltraCalming™ Cleanser, then moisturise with Dermalogica Barrier Defense Booster and Calm Water Gel (all included in the ProPower Peel Post-Procedure Kit).

Avoid any type of exfoliating product until directed by the professional skin therapist. For many courses of professional peels, a customer is directed to avoid exfoliating at home for the duration and two weeks post the conclusion of the course.

Spritz and moisturise throughout the day to maintain hydration and decrease the appearance of flaking.

Treatment cost?

Depending on the location of the business in Australia but the treatment ranges between $90 to $120 for the 30 minute peel.
