Hair hacks for the festival and racing season

It's that time of year again, this weekend flower crowns and headwear will no doubt be out in full force. Why not change it up and stray from the status quo? Check out our gallery of festival and race day essentials, as well as expert trend predictions below.

Colour

If you’re feeling bold but a bit hesitant to take the plunge into permanent colour, there’s a new wave of products that will satisfy all your colourful cravings without the long term risk. “We’ll be seeing more vibrant, punchy fluorescent shades this summer,” anticipates Jarah Mclaren, senior stylist at hair salon M11 Studio. Whether you want to be daring for a month, a week, or just a day, innovative semi-permanent washouts and sprays allow you to play with your colour like you play with your make-up.

Accessorise

Ditching the hat and fascinator doesn't need to be boring - opt for an elegant headband or loose pinned back curls with an embelished clip. As for the festival dwellers - the 90's is making a comeback! Think scrunchies and hair screws...high ponytails, double "Miley Cyrus" buns and crimped tresses. If you're wearing your hair down we recommend popping a spiral hair tie in your bag so you can pull it up into a bun in the mosh without damaging your locks - it gets pretty hot in there!

Hair perfume

It turns out perfume isn’t exclusively for your skin. Smell gorgeous both trackside and in the mosh with a spritz of hair mist. While you may be thinking, “Won’t my regular perfume suffice?” hair mists provide beautifying benefits too. If you’re looking to revive that post-blow wave scent and silky smooth feel, we highly recommend jumping on board with this trend.

Summer hair woes solved

Best for fighting frizz:

Arguably the bane of summer is the dreaded frizz but luckily, it’s easier to combat than you’d think. To reduce frizz and keep fly aways at bay, coat your tresses in a hydrating hair oil or serum, which will protect and close the cuticle. There are now also complexes that specifically target frizz through smoothing agents and humidity defence formulas.

Best for chlorinated hair:

If your hair is sporting a minty hue after a dip in the pool, look for a hydrating, clarifying shampoo to remove unwanted tones, while revitalising dry ends.  Pair this with a repair mask to strengthen, restore and increase manageability of damaged hair.

Best for banishing brassiness:

Similarly to chlorine, blonde locks can turn brassy when overexposed to sunlight and sea salt. To counteract the brassy tones, slather strands in a violet pigment shampoo as it will help to neutralise yellow tones.
