AFW 2025 backstage report: Karla Špetić

Karla Špetić backstage report – May 14th, 2025

Australian designer Karla Špetić presented her latest collection, AERIS, at Australian Fashion Week in Sydney. Rooted in a personal journey of energy healing, self-reflection, and spiritual awakening, AERIS explored the space between lightness and grounding, softness and strength, serving as a quiet meditation—both physical and emotional.

AERIS was defined by ethereal layering, subtle contrasts, and fluid tailoring. Printed Trompe L’oeil denim illusions appeared across dresses, skirts, and tops, layered over sheer fabrics to create visual intrigue and dimension. Lace body-con pieces were layered under and over structured garments, adding texture and cohesion while creating visual lightness and fluidity.

The colour palette unfolded in a gentle progression—beginning with crisp whites and denim blues, evolving into layered denim prints and tonal greys, then softening into muted neutrals and warm nudes. From there, it rose into delicate blush pinks before grounding itself in deep, cosmic blacks—echoing the vast, infinite horizon of the universe.

"The women of AERIS embody a confident, effortless beauty, each one the best version of herself, radiant, grounded, and moving forward like a shooting star across the night sky," said Karla Špetić.

Skin:

Backstage, skin was prepped using Thrive Tallow skincare, a blend of grass-fed tallow and organic olive oil ensuring deeply hydrated, luminous complexions.

Makeup director, Susan Lilian then applied products by INIKA Organic, a pioneer in clean beauty to enhance each model’s natural beauty to create a soft, radiant glow, that was effortless and light.

Hair:

Led by hair director, Benjamin Martin, creative director of Melbourne’s XVI COLLECTIVE, the Revlon Professional team brought to life a series of soft, free-flowing hair looks that perfectly complemented Karla Špetić’s Aeris Resort 2026 collection, a meditation on lightness, fluidity, and inner alignment.

"Karla’s show is based on an earthy, more organic feeling to her clothing," said Martin.

"She wanted to carry that through to the hair. So we worked with the models’ natural textures, enhancing curls with Revlon Professional UniqOne Curl Cream, and for straighter hair, using Eksperience Densi Pro to thicken and add organic texture, giving the hair a kind of day-spa treatment."

Working closely with Karla, Ben crafted hair that felt weightless yet intentional, mirroring the collection’s ethereal silhouettes and delicate layering.
