Trend watch: Clean beauty

While natural and organic are still huge, we’re seeing a huge shift towards ‘clean beauty’. But what exactly is the difference?

While there’s no singular definition, the clean trend embraces both synthetic and natural ingredients but there’s one non-negotiable – products do not include any chemicals considered toxic to skin. “With clean beauty it's what we leave out of the ingredient deck that really matters,” explains Kay Roby, corporate educator for Osmosis Skincare. “It means taking a more holistic approach, as to make positive and permanent change in the skin, we need to feed it nutrients not nasties.” Most clean beauty products avoid the use of ingredients like parabens, sulphates, silicones and synthetic fragrances.
