BD Fast Five: Lucy Slight

As the recently appointed features director across Bauer Media’s fashion and home portfolio, as well as being a long-time beauty maven herself (having amassed almost 10 years in the industry!), it’s fair to say the always-radiant Lucy Slight has well and truly fine-tuned her regime.

First thing’s first - skin or makeup?

Skin first, always! I’m a very minimal makeup person (as far as a beauty editor goes, anyway). In the morning I cleanse with  (my new favourite), before applying a vitamin C serum. I’m currently using the new Dermalogica and I’m noticing the difference in my skin tone after only a couple of weeks. I’ll then follow with a lightweight SPF like and then an oil because I have super dry skin, especially in winter. I’ve been using Rose Hip Fruit + Seed Serum for just over a month and my skin feels - and looks - so much more hydrated because of it.

Alright, onto makeup... Next I’ll apply a super lightweight foundation only to the areas that need it - mainly just my cheeks and chin. Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup in Pale Almond is my current go-to. Then I’ll add a quick lick of Thin Lizzy Mineral Foundation in Pacific Sun just to ensure my skin tone looks super even. Weirdly, I think I look better if you can see a hint of the dark circles under my eyes so I don’t apply concealer. I just coat my lashes in mascara - always a tubing formula - that’s a must! The new  is great, but my other firm favourite tubing formulas are Clinique and Kevin Aucoin The Volume Mascara from Mecca. Then I’ll apply my Glossier Boy Brow (shout out to my New York-dwelling friend who I’ve twice now used as a Glossier mule) and a bit of highlighter (MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle).

Do you have a signature scent, if so what is it, or do you like to mix it up?

I don’t wear fragrance everyday - I always forget to put it on! I have approximately 3ml left of my Byredo Gypsy Water so that’s obviously right up there. But l recently started wearing Nasomatto Narcotic Venus from World Beauty - it was my wedding day scent - so that now has a really special meaning. Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne is another classic that I don’t think I’ll ever tire of wearing.

What is your biggest beauty learning to date?

Brows, brows, brows! My eyebrows are naturally lighter than my hair colour and when I look back on photos from university where I dyed my hair dark brown and did NOTHING to my eyebrows, it’s an absolute tragedy. I had microblading done by the amazing ladies at Lash Noir and it was a complete game-changer. I need to get them done again but at the moment I’m just happy with my Glossier Boy Brow and Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil. I’ll never leave the house these days without making sure my brows are looking good.

What product have you re-purchased the most over the years?

Easy: Thin Lizzy Mineral Foundation in Pacific Sun. No one believes me when I rave on and on about how good it is... until they try it! I’ve converted so many people, I should be on commission.

What has come across your desk recently that you’re looking forward to trying?

Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste from Oh Natural. I switched to natural and aluminium-free deodorant about a year ago and I’ll never go back. I’ve heard great things about this one so looking forward to giving it a test-run!
