New York Fashion Week 2012 beauty trends

After a week's worth of shows at New York Mercedes Benz Autumn/Winter 2012 Fashion Week, there’s been a range of looks and trends coming out of the event.

While the fashion has been about leather and lace, fur, cosy knits, military looks and interesting layers, beauty trends coming out of the week included nude lips, over-the-top eyes, bold nails and natural, simple hair.

Estée Lauder for Derek Lam

On February 12, sponsored the make-up and nails at the Derek Lam runway show.

The team was headed up by Estée Lauder creative make-up director Tom Pecheux for the fifth consecutive year – creating a look showcasing invisible matte skin with subtly defined cheeks, pink-beige tinted lips and a cat eye in a smoky-burgundy shade.

"The French have a saying for this look, 'Un peu décalé,' inspired by a woman who has a unique way about her. Unexpected. Intriguing. Different from all the rest. She is youthful and innocent, yet far from immature," says Pecheux.

Bobbi Brown for Tibi and Rachel Roy

Tibi - The Tibi show was a take on The Beatles but with a 90s twist. "To complement the collection, the makeup is strong yet effortless, featuring a full, defined brow. Paired with a fresh, dewy cheek and a matte, nude lip, the look represents an understated confidence," says CEO and founder Bobbi Brown.

Rachel Roy - Rachel Roy's A/W '12 collection is inspired by nature in its purest form. Using the collection as a base for her make-up, Brown's look "features a strong eye in earthy tones. A healthy bronzed cheek and nude stained lips complete the look”.

Wella Professionals for Narciso Rodriguez

Wella Professionals global creative director Eugene Souleiman created a part sci-fi, part Parisian chic hair look for the A/W '12 Narciso Rodriguez show.

"I wanted to create a hair look that was aerodynamic and gave the impression that the hair was moving at an incredibly high speed," says Eugene Souleiman. There is a feeling of strength and perfection within this look, it’s very precise and controlled which gives it a super modern feel."

Wella Professionals for Peter Som

Wella Professionals global creative director Eugene Souleiman leaned heavily on the idea of contrast for the Peter Som autumn/winter show.

The Peter Som collection this season is very pared back and led by strict shapes and colours, so I wanted to create a graphic look that worked with the collection but at the same time was not too harsh,” says Souleiman. This look is all about tension; tension from the contrast of the small sleek head shape against the full wildness and texture at the back of the hair, and tension between the shine and precision of the top section against the arid rawness of the longer lengths.”
