Schwarzkopf Australia makes all hair products recyclable nationwide

Schwarzkopf Australia has partnered with TerraCycle®, a global leader in recycling hard-to-recycle waste, to make its retail hair care, hair colour and hair styling products recyclable nationwide.

Committed to providing a recycling solution for all hair care users, the Schwarzkopf Australia TerraCycle initiative, Schwarzkopf Cares, will also accept and recycle all retail competitor hair care products – from any brand – presenting a meaningful opportunity to divert up to 147 million units of hair products from landfill.

"Sustainability is a key pillar of what we do at Schwarzkopf and we’re focused on continuing to take the right steps forward to design for sustainability," said Peter Rigby, GM ANZ Henkel Beauty Care Retail.

"We’re proud to be launching the Schwarzkopf Cares Recycling Program, in partnership with TerraCycle, in Australia and New Zealand - it moves us one step closer to our goal of ensuring all our packaging is 100% recyclable or reusable by 2025."

The program will accept hair care product packaging including trigger heads, pumps, tubes, caps and tubs, hair product aerosols including hair spray, mousse and dry shampoo, and hair colour products including bottles, pumps, sachets, gloves, plastic stirrers and tubes.

"Our partnership with TerraCycle provides an opportunity for all consumers to recycle all brands of hair products. We believe that partnerships such as this are key to our sustainability journey and look forward to growing our sustainability initiatives within Henkel Beauty Care Retail ANZ," said Rigby.

As of November 9, people are invited to register online at Terracycle.com.au to be part of the Schwarzkopf Cares Recycling Program. Registration is free and open to individuals, households, schools, offices, and community groups.

Once registered, participants can pack their used hair care packaging into any available box and, when they’re ready, simply download a free shipping label from Terracycle.com.au, affix it to the box, and send it to TerraCycle for recycling.

The packaging waste will be recycled into a variety of new consumer products including park benches, bike racks, pet food bowls and recycling bins.
