Five micro-hair trends to keep on your radar in 2019

The New Year is well and truly in full swing, so BD chatted to celebrity hair stylist and Pantene ambassador, Remington Schulz, to find out his hare care predictions for 2019.

Schulz breaks down the top five hottest trends that will be sure to fill up Instagram feeds this year.

The rise of greys and lilacs

2019 will be the year to let your greys shine with silver hues taking centre stage and being the colour of choice among those looking for a brave colour change. If you’re not quite ready to transition into silver, lilac hair is the next best thing. Following the pastel hair trend, lilac hair is here to stay, with the option to go a bold, radiant tone or opt for a softer, subtle purple hue.

Braids will be the up do of 2019

In 2018 we have seen braids become the go-to ‘do for all occasions; from women’s sporting teams rocking the slicked back braid to the runways of spring fashion weeks across the world. This year we will see this reign continue, with embellishments like ribbons as an easy way to add a little something special. Pantene recently launched the Pantene Ribbon of Strength which is braided into hair as a symbol to empower and encourage women to stay in sports with over half of women dropping out of sport by the age of 24.

Taking inspiration from skincare

Inspired by skincare, we will see an increase in multi-step hair care routines and a focus on improving hair strength health by treating and targeting the scalp. Rather than a quick shampoo and conditioning process, we’ll be thinking more about extra steps to nourish and protect our hair. Look out for hair care products inspired by the skincare space, from masks to superfood ingredients.

Baby Bangs

One of the most unexpected trends for this year is baby bangs. Baby bangs, or baby fringes, are short fringes that have been cut a little shorter. They sit well above the eyebrows and can be blunt and well-kept or wispy for a more boho look. Baby bangs are a great way to frame the face and show off your cheekbones, without the heavy, closed look of full bangs.

The blunt jawline bob

If you weren’t brave enough to get the chop last year, 2019 will be your year with the blunt jawline bob set to be the short hairstyle of the year. 2019’s version of the bob is a blunt chop that sits at the jawline when tucked behind the ear but gives an A-line effect. It is perfect for both fine or thick hair with the style giving the hair a fuller appearance and can be tweaked for different face shapes. My tip for the blunt jawline bob is to use a really hydrating and replenishing conditioner that will repair any damage and give a neat, sharp bob. I use Pantene 3 Minute Miracle which features micro-nourishers that moisturise, help seal cuticles and repair damage from root to tip.
